PGA Professional

Peter “Chip” Richter

I’m Chip Richter, a PGA-certified golf coach who would like to help you improve your game. As a player and coach for more than 30 years, I utilize my experience and modern technology to simplify the game and help you get better quickly and immediately have more fun!

I played golf for and graduated from Old Dominion University, and then worked at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Florida, as an assistant professional from 1994-1998. From 1998-2001, I worked at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, before becoming the Head Golf Professional at Carlisle Country Club in 2001, where I worked for nearly 20 years. I was named the Central Counties Chapter PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 2014, and received the PGA Philadelphia Section’s Horton Smith Award in 2015.

In 2020, it was time for a change. I am now teaching full time as the Director of Instruction at the Country Club of Harrisburg — a fantastic William Flynn design that opened in 1896. Also, I am on the Titleist staff and serve as President of the PGA Philadelphia Section.

My wife, Leslie, and I have been married 26 years, and we have two daughters, Peyton, 23, and Paige, 20.

Certified in golf teaching and coaching through the PGA of America, I am a Trackman owner and have Professional Level 2 TM certification. Lessons usually start with Trackman analysis and a V1 Sports Pressure Mat and/or Hack Motion for diagnosis.  Once the source of a student’s problem has been identified, I utilize numerous learning aids to help facilitate change. Those aids include:

  • For the full swing: GG Box, Leadbetter Swing Setter and Right Angle, Speed Sticks, Momentus weighted clubs, Sheftics Pressure Board, ProSendr, Tour Striker Smart Ball, the Down Under Board and the Total Golf Trainer system
  • For putting: Wellputt mat, Orange Whip putter, Momentus inside straight track, John Dunigan putting tee, Pelz putting tutor, the Putting Arc, Eyeline slot trainer, Groove putting mirror, Putting Pal golf training and more
  • For green reading: Aimpoint Express system, Aimpoint Calibration mat and Husky digital level.
  • For wedge work: Orange Whip wedge, the Momentus wedge, the DST compressor and a FLYT Sleeve.

As a player I competed in the 1988 U.S. Junior Amateur, and the 1991 and 1993 U.S. Amateur. After turning professional in 1994, I made it to the second stage of U.S. Open qualifying in 1997, 2003 and 2017. Along the way, there were many mini tours, as well events on the Nationwide and Buy.Com tour (now the Korn Ferry tour). As it’s important for instructors to continue learning and working on their game, I still compete in PGA Philadelphia Section events.

I love teaching and helping people, and look forward to helping you get better at golf and have fun doing it.
